Don’t Let Paperwork Stand Between You and Peace of Mind
Filing a roof insurance claim after storm damage can feel overwhelming. Between assessing the damage, navigating insurance paperwork, and worrying about whether repairs will be covered, it’s easy for homeowners to feel stuck.
The storm was bad enough. Don’t let the insurance process add to your stress. Our experts guide you every step of the way to help get your claim approved without headaches.
Why Roof Insurance Claims Are So Stressful for Homeowners
Even with homeowners insurance, recovering from storm damage isn’t always simple. Many people face:
- Policy confusion – Understanding coverage limits, exclusions, and terms like ACV (Actual Cash Value) vs. RCV (Replacement Cost Value)
- Fear of underpaid settlements – Adjusters may overlook hidden damage or approve only partial repairs
- Contractor uncertainty – Choosing the wrong roofer can hurt your chances of a successful claim
Our team helps homeowners avoid these common pitfalls with detailed inspections, precise documentation, and expert collaboration with insurance adjusters.
Step-by-Step Guide to Filing Your Roof Insurance Claim
Step 1 – Understand Your Policy Before Filing
Review your homeowners insurance policy carefully. Pay attention to:
- What types of storm damage are covered (hail, wind, debris)
- Deductibles and policy limits
- Exclusions for older roofs or deferred maintenance
Our professionals often assist homeowners in interpreting their policies to avoid unpleasant surprises later.
Step 2 – Document Storm Damage Thoroughly
Accurate, detailed evidence is key to a smooth claims process. Take:
- Wide photos of your roof, yard, and any exterior damage
- Close-ups of cracked shingles, damaged flashing, and gutter dents
- Notes on dates, times, and weather conditions
- Receipts for any emergency repairs, such as tarping
Our team provides comprehensive photo reports and inspection summaries designed to meet insurer standards.
Step 3 – Contact Your Insurance Company Promptly
Report the storm damage to your insurer as soon as possible. During your first call:
- Share clear, factual information about the damage and storm event
- Avoid speculating about repair costs or causes
- Request an adjuster inspection and ask about claim timelines
- Keep a record of your conversation including names, dates, and times
Step 4 – Schedule a Professional Roofing Inspection
A certified roofing professional strengthens your claim by identifying visible and hidden damage. Our IKO ROOFPRO-certified specialists create detailed reports that adjusters rely on to assess the full scope of repairs.
Choosing an experienced local contractor also protects you from storm chasers—unlicensed crews that often perform low-quality work and jeopardize insurance coverage.
Step 5 – Meet With Your Adjuster
When the insurance adjuster visits, having a roofing expert present can make a big difference. Our professionals often:
- Walk the roof with the adjuster to point out all damage
- Answer technical questions about materials and repair needs
- Advocate to ensure nothing is overlooked in the claim
Step 6 – Review Your Settlement Offer Carefully
Don’t accept a settlement until you’ve reviewed it closely. Common issues include:
- Missing line items for necessary repairs
- Estimates based on ACV instead of RCV
- Payouts that don’t cover the full scope of storm damage
Our team can review your offer, provide additional documentation, or request a re-inspection if needed to help you secure fair coverage.
Common Pitfalls That Can Delay or Deny Your Claim
- Incomplete documentation – Missing photos or reports can stall approval
- Delays in filing – Most policies require claims to be filed within 30–60 days
- Unlicensed contractors – Poor repairs may lead to denied claims or further damage
By working with experienced roofing professionals, homeowners can avoid these costly mistakes and keep their claims moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
What documents do I need to file a roof insurance claim?
To successfully file a roof insurance claim, gather clear photos and videos of all visible damage, including wide shots and close-ups. Keep a record of the storm’s date, any emergency repair receipts (like tarping), and notes about the damage. A detailed inspection report from a certified roofer is essential to support your claim and can help prevent delays or disputes with your insurer.
How long does the roof insurance claim process take?
The timeline varies, but most homeowners can expect an adjuster inspection within 7–14 days of reporting the damage. If your documentation is complete, claim approvals and settlements often follow within 2–4 weeks. However, claims involving hidden damage or disputes may take longer. Having a professional roofer assist with the process can help avoid unnecessary delays.
Can I switch roofing contractors after filing an insurance claim?
Yes, you’re free to choose your own contractor at any stage of the claims process. You’re not obligated to use a company recommended by your insurer. Hiring a certified, experienced roofer ensures your repairs meet all requirements and helps protect your insurance coverage.
What Our Customers Say
Read first hand what our customers think about their roof repair with Bravo Company Roofing:
Communication at first was rocky but I was thoroughly communicated with by the owner and my project manager throughout after a bit.
They also were able to renegotiate with my insurance on my behalf to secure an entire new roof after they had only offered half which I'm grateful for.
Of note; I was able to pick an upgraded shingle type and the color to better withstand the storms in the future which was easier then I had thought would be.
It looks great and I'm happy with having gone with them.
My husband and I were especially impressed by how genuinely committed they were to helping us and ensuring the job was done right. The team went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. The workers who came to fix our roof were not only efficient but also left the area spotless, which we deeply appreciated.
Bravo Roofing delivered excellent service, and their attention to detail and customer care made all the difference. If you’re looking for a company that truly values its customers and takes pride in their work, look no further. We highly recommend them!
Additionally we had them install gutters all around the house. Very pleased with the results.
The most important thing I will say is the communication with them was spot on. Robbie & Brian kept me informed during the whole process, even while I was out of town.

Bravo Company Roofing Review
Jonathan from Bravo Company Roofing came to my house to see if I might need a new roof. Using his UAV, he inspected my roof looking for any type of hail or wind damage. After the inspection, he showed me pictures of damage to my roof. The next step was to have my insurance inspector to come out and determine if the damage suggested a replacement was needed. Jonathan kept me updated via phone on all activity and dates to meet my schedule.
My insurance inspector came out with Jonathan and did determine my roof had enough damage that it needed replacement. Jonathan went through all the steps that would follow to replace my roof. The most important was understanding the contract. Jonathan went over all the details and explain fully so both my wife and I understood the process.
On a date of my choosing, we set up a time to schedule the roof replacement. Jonathan went over what I needed to do before the installation crew came out so no damage would occur to my screens or items in the yard. Jonathan was very patient with us as we picked out a color of shingle we wanted on the roof. I made a few upgrades that I paid extra for to have a roof that will last longer.
Due to the weather, we had to postpone our installation only one day. The crew showed up about 7am and started to work. The meticulously put down plastic tarps to catch the debris as they removed the old shingles and underlaying.
After completing the new roof, they went around and cleaned up the area of nails and debris. I was told they may not get everything, so be sure to make my own inspection. I inspected the yard back and front for three days finding bits and pieces that escaped the cleanup. All in all the crew did a fantastic job! I was very pleased to sign over the last check for the job completion. My roof is awesome and makes my house stand out even more now. I can not thank Jonathan enough for his detailed explanation of the whole process and his excellent communication from start to finish.
If you ever need a new roof, I highly recommend Bravo Company Roofing! Not only will you be pleased with the excellent work they do for your replacement roof, but also the professionalism of how they manage their company and quality of service they provide the customer!
Sincerely,
Steven and Frances Daigle
