What Impacts Roof Longevity — and How to Make Sure Yours Goes the Distance
A new roof should give you peace of mind — not a surprise repair bill five years later. Many homeowners see a new roof as a one-and-done deal — install it and forget about it. But a roof’s lifespan depends on more than just the material. It comes down to how it’s installed, how well it breathes, and how it handles storms over time. At Bravo Company Roofing, we help you look beneath the surface and choose a roofing system built to truly last.
Roofing Material Lifespan Breakdown
Not all shingles are created equal — and neither are their life expectancies.
Asphalt Shingles (Bravo’s Specialty):
- Standard 3-tab shingles: 15–20 years
- Architectural shingles: 25–30 years or more with proper installation and ventilation
These are the most popular choices for homeowners in Georgia due to their affordability, durability, and versatility. At Bravo, architectural asphalt shingles are our go-to because they provide excellent performance for the price — and when installed correctly, they can outperform expectations.
Other Materials (Less Common for Our Clients):
- Wood shake: 20–30 years (less common in Georgia due to humidity)
- Tile or slate: 50+ years (premium/high-cost options)
At Bravo, we focus on architectural asphalt shingles because they offer the best balance of performance, affordability, and resilience in Georgia’s storm-prone climate.
What Impacts Roof Longevity (Beyond the Material)
Installation Quality
Even the best shingles can fail early if installed poorly. Our veteran-led crews take pride in every detail — every nail, every flashing, every vent — to get it right the first time.
Ventilation and Underlayment
Your roof needs to breathe. Without balanced airflow and high-performance underlayment, heat and moisture can shorten your roof’s life dramatically.
Environmental Exposure
From tree coverage to sun exposure to Georgia’s intense humidity and storms, your environment plays a big role. That’s why choosing the right material — and installer — matters.
Warranty vs. Reality
Warranties often overpromise. At Bravo, we offer a six-year workmanship warranty and walk you through every coverage detail — no fine print surprises.
Signs Your Roof May Not Last as Long as It Should
A roof that’s only a few years old can still fail if it was rushed or cut-rate. Red flags include:
- Crooked or misaligned shingles
- Missing drip edge or flashing
- Buckling, soft spots, or shingle lift
- Poor attic ventilation causing trapped moisture
We often replace “young” roofs that were installed improperly. That’s why Bravo starts with a full inspection — looking for the little things that make a big difference over time.
How to Extend the Life of Your Roof
With simple, proactive care, you can easily add 5+ years to your roof’s life. Maintenance tips:
- Schedule inspections every 1–2 years (or after major storms)
- Keep gutters clear to prevent water buildup and ice dams
- Trim overhanging branches and remove moss or debris
- Watch for attic humidity and ensure vents are working properly
Bravo offers post-install support and roofing guidance, even years after the job is done — because we believe your investment should last.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many years should a new asphalt roof last?
The lifespan of a new roof depends on the material and installation quality. Standard asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years, while architectural shingles — like the ones Bravo installs — often last 25–30 years or more. At Bravo Company Roofing, we make sure your roof is built to meet (and often exceed) its full expected lifespan by using certified materials and precision installation.
What shortens the life of a roof?
Several factors can reduce your roof’s lifespan: poor installation, inadequate ventilation, severe weather, and lack of maintenance. For example, trapped attic heat or clogged gutters can accelerate shingle breakdown. At Bravo, we design every roofing system to maximize airflow, manage moisture, and withstand Georgia’s harsh climate — and we teach homeowners how to maintain it for the long haul.
Can a roof last 30 years?
Yes — especially when you choose a high-durability option like architectural asphalt shingles, installed by a skilled, certified team. Bravo Company Roofing installs roofing systems designed to last 25–30 years or more, depending on the environment and upkeep. We help you weigh long-term value against your budget and goals, so your next roof is the last one you’ll need for decades.
Hear From Our Satisfied Customers
See what Atlanta homeowners are saying about their roof replacement experience with Team Bravo:
Communication at first was rocky but I was thoroughly communicated with by the owner and my project manager throughout after a bit.
They also were able to renegotiate with my insurance on my behalf to secure an entire new roof after they had only offered half which I'm grateful for.
Of note; I was able to pick an upgraded shingle type and the color to better withstand the storms in the future which was easier then I had thought would be.
It looks great and I'm happy with having gone with them.
My husband and I were especially impressed by how genuinely committed they were to helping us and ensuring the job was done right. The team went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. The workers who came to fix our roof were not only efficient but also left the area spotless, which we deeply appreciated.
Bravo Roofing delivered excellent service, and their attention to detail and customer care made all the difference. If you’re looking for a company that truly values its customers and takes pride in their work, look no further. We highly recommend them!
Additionally we had them install gutters all around the house. Very pleased with the results.
The most important thing I will say is the communication with them was spot on. Robbie & Brian kept me informed during the whole process, even while I was out of town.
Bravo Company Roofing Review
Jonathan from Bravo Company Roofing came to my house to see if I might need a new roof. Using his UAV, he inspected my roof looking for any type of hail or wind damage. After the inspection, he showed me pictures of damage to my roof. The next step was to have my insurance inspector to come out and determine if the damage suggested a replacement was needed. Jonathan kept me updated via phone on all activity and dates to meet my schedule.
My insurance inspector came out with Jonathan and did determine my roof had enough damage that it needed replacement. Jonathan went through all the steps that would follow to replace my roof. The most important was understanding the contract. Jonathan went over all the details and explain fully so both my wife and I understood the process.
On a date of my choosing, we set up a time to schedule the roof replacement. Jonathan went over what I needed to do before the installation crew came out so no damage would occur to my screens or items in the yard. Jonathan was very patient with us as we picked out a color of shingle we wanted on the roof. I made a few upgrades that I paid extra for to have a roof that will last longer.
Due to the weather, we had to postpone our installation only one day. The crew showed up about 7am and started to work. The meticulously put down plastic tarps to catch the debris as they removed the old shingles and underlaying.
After completing the new roof, they went around and cleaned up the area of nails and debris. I was told they may not get everything, so be sure to make my own inspection. I inspected the yard back and front for three days finding bits and pieces that escaped the cleanup. All in all the crew did a fantastic job! I was very pleased to sign over the last check for the job completion. My roof is awesome and makes my house stand out even more now. I can not thank Jonathan enough for his detailed explanation of the whole process and his excellent communication from start to finish.
If you ever need a new roof, I highly recommend Bravo Company Roofing! Not only will you be pleased with the excellent work they do for your replacement roof, but also the professionalism of how they manage their company and quality of service they provide the customer!
Sincerely,
Steven and Frances Daigle
